White Wine Is Fine Anytime!

White wine was my second step in my long journey with the vino. First I started with rose's in my teens, then and a business trip to North Carolina I tried my first glass of chardonnay. It was from room service with dinner. And I still always enjoy my Christmas turkey dinner with a nice glass of white, usually a chardonnay.

Tips On Choosing And Serving White Wines:

  • correct serving temperature should be 58-62 degrees F or 14-16.5 degrees C
  • glasses for white should be about 10-12 oz minimum capacity
  • decide what style of white do you want to serve
  • fresh unoaked; crisp and light with no sweetness or oaky character
  • earthy whites; dry, full bodied, unoaked or lightly oaked
  • aromatic whites; characterized by their intense aromas and flavor that come from their grape varietal and are usually semi-dry or dry
  • oaked whites; oaky whites are rich and oaky in flavor. They are making a big comeback recently, especially oaky chardonnay's
  • always serve white before red

I have a hard time remembering a wine I tried at a party two months previous, but for some reason the details of this wine experience from 16 years ago are quite fresh.

I always try to write down really spectacular wines I like in a Wine Journal That way I can always remember what vino I had loved, well okay I don't remember I look it up ;-)

I sometimes peel the labels off of the wine bottles too and past them into my journal. This also makes it much easier to remember having a visual picture of the label, every little bit helps as you get older...I mean as you gracefully mature.

white wine White wine can be enjoyed any time in the year, but it is a particularly popular spring and summer time beverage.

From personal experience when I sit outside on the patio it does not attract quite as many fruit flies are mosquitoes as red does.

Especially fruit flies, they thoroughly enjoy a hearty "sip and swim" then their back again for more...pesky little buggers.

Put you're whites in the fridge for about 10 to 15 minutes before drinking. Sometimes when it's super hot I will load up my glass with ice and a

white vino sangria. Pinot grigio is probably the most popular white for summer. It is the perfect patio wine. Crisp, clean and ideally pairs well with summer salads, and grilled vegetables and seafood. Sauvignon blanc is another popular summer vino. It is rich and fruity and holds up well with chicken or seafood salads as well as simple summer dips. Also greatly enjoyable to sip on all by itself at the end of a hot summer day. Perfect to enjoy alfresco in the evening by candlelight with your favorite white wine drinker beside you. :-)

pinot grigio A Riesling is also a natural warm weather partner. High in acidity and sugars, usually evoking aromas of flowers, pears, peaches and tropical fruit. This wine pairs well with a large variety of summer fare; such as grilled pork, fresh catch of the day fish, sushi and seafood.

Riesling has a reputation for being extremely sweet. But this is not always so there are many dry varietals available. Try out some new varietals you haven't tried before, you may be pleasantly surprised.

I like to keep a few bottles of sparkling wine on hand just in case of an impromptu celebration. You never know when you have the need to a pop open a bottle of bubbly Spumante.

Myself I really enjoy a dry white, so I am quite partial to chardonnays, but occasionally I do like something a little sweet. And a strawberry wine or an ice wine fills this craving quite nicely. Sometimes I'll reach for a rose wine instead.

wineries I also find white wine a beautiful wine to cook with,( in a glass right beside me) and sometimes I even added to the food.

:-) I love to add a splash of blanc to an alfredo or blue cheese sauce(a big splash), it just punches and so much flavor. My secret ingredient to my fabulous turkey gravy, a splash of Fat Bastard chardonnay. My artichoke and crab dip also benefits from a hearty splash of white wine.

If you enjoy a white vino regularly, you might want to check out one of the many wine clubs that will conveniently deliver to you your favorite whites right to your door step. Every month, or every other month if that's what you prefer.

So enjoy a glass of your favorite chablis tonight, whether it's a hot summer day out on the deck or by a cozy romantic fire with your favorite friend.

Cheers
