Sauvignon Blanc Is The Perfect Summer Wine
I'm not a big white wine drinker, but a Sauvignon blanc fits the bill when I feel like switching up and having a light white. Painted turtle from British Columbia (convenient for me) does a really nice one for a very reasonable price. When I make seafood fettuccine I usually pick up a bottle of painted turtle to go with dinner. (it also goes nice with the chardonnay as well)
Here are some of our favorites:

It is a very popular
white wine,
it can hail from British Columbia :-), California, France, South Africa, New Zealand, and many other destinations.
The Marlborough region of New Zealand is the top of production zone for Sauvignon Blanc. When they first started producing it for exporting they were generally unoaked with distinctive intense flavors that were herbaceous and pungent with a rich text are high in acidity.
This was back in the late 1980s and it is still very popular today. Evolving in the last decade the alternative style of the New Zealand Sauvignon Blanco is achieved through the use of oak barrels to soften the texture.
As a result the taste is a riper, fruitier, less assertive Sauvignon. Also blending in Semillon tones down the herbaceous flavors of the wine, offering a different style entirely.
Using the oak to round out flavors, and adding Semillon wine to soften the Sauvignon blanc and add complexity has been a common practice for years in the Bordeaux region of France.
Because with French wine labels law requires them to be named after their sub regions rather than the name of the grape, it is good practice to turn to the back label to find your grape varietal. Quite often a more detailed description of the wine is found here.
This
wine
goes incredibly well with food, rounding out the whole meal. It goes perfect with grilled trout or sole with a lemon sauce with slivers of toasted almonds, of course on the side a fresh green salad, then a platter of assorted cheeses to round out the meal. Finishing up of course with another glass of wine.
It is the perfect summer sipping wine. I also love it with grilled salmon. I have a brown sugar, onion, garlic and white wine sauce that goes on the salmon on the barbecue, it's fantastic. Before I came across this fantastic recipe from Brian Elmore my grilled salmon just wasn't as good as it is now. And I always put a hearty splash of painted turtle SB into the sugar sauce...yummy
Some really nice Sauvignon Blancs I recommend a from British Columbia are the reserve from Mission Hill or Jackson-Triggs proprietor's reserve. From California Robert Mondavi Private Selection, from France Mouton Cadet Blanc. And of course there has to be a few picks in here from New Zealand :-) I like Wither Hills Marlborough and Babich Marlborough blancs. All of these here in Canada are under $20.00, good value for the quality wine you get with these proprietors. It is the perfect summer wine, the ultimate aromatic white! So pull up a glass and try one of my picks out, or your own favorite.
Cheers
