Pinot Noir Is One Of My All Time Favorite Wines!
The love for pinot noir gained much momentum after the movie Sideways.(Alas poor merlot fell out of favor a little from the same movie unjustly so, in my opinion.)
Here are some of my favorites:
2007 Belle Pente Yamhill
2007 Beringer Napa Valley
2008 Heron
But growing this particular grape varietal can be quite a challenge. It is very finicky and particular about both climate and soil. If only I had been as picky and finicky when I picked my first two husbands...aaaah, but that's another website entirely!
And I don't think I'll ever get to that one, I have a travel site in mind next. I'll be able to taste test wines from all over the world. New Zealand is definately on the list of places to go, they grow some of the best grapes from this particular varietal worldwide. And some of the winemasters there are also topnotch as far as winemaking goes to.

Pinot noirs are generally lighter than some of their red
wine
counterparts. It is usually high in alcohol content with medium to low tannins but medium high acidity.
It can be very fruity, reminding you of a blend of beautiful red berries, or sometimes woodsy and earthy. It all depends on the conditions of how the Grapes were grown. No matter how it is made, it is an elegant easy sipping red wine to drink.
These Grapes like it a little cooler, and with limestone in the soil this varietal will thrive. Even though sometimes quite difficult to grow, it is very much so worth the effort, because it can be turned into some of the greatest wines ever made.
Parts of Oregon have the conditions to produce fantastic pinot noir wines. The main area of this grape is crying in Oregon is in the Willamette valley, just south of Portland in the northwest. It is a huge wine region in Oregon boasting over 200 wineries. It is the main producer of this grape varietal in the United States. California and Washington State also produce some great pinots too.
And of course France puts out some of the best in the world. On my wine tour up in the Okanogan we found some fantastic ones as well. Mission Hill, Quail's gate, and Cedar Creek do some spectacular pinot noirs. This trip was the very first time that I was introduced to this wine. It has been one of my absolute favorite reds ever since. I had always stuck to merlots and cabernet-savs before, so this trip opened up a whole new world of new wines to try. From this tour I have learned to always be open to new, that way I won't miss out on anything. It's always fun to try "new" and not just wine.
It was the very first wine tour that I had ever been on. We went up to the Okanogan for four days and enjoyed tasting wine from the local wineries all weekend long. Probably because it was the very first time I had enjoyed this wine I associate it with a trip and enjoy it that much more. Half of the wines that I bought on this trip were pinots.
Also for the very first time I saw the pinot noir glasses, I absolutely loved the shape of them. I didn't buy any while we were up there because I didn't want them to possibly break on the drive back with all the wine and stuff we had accumulated on our trip.
So when I got back I went in search of these glasses thinking they would be easy to find, probably anywhere else but Chilliwack they would have been. But at the time I wanted to buy some, they were nowhere to be found. I finally found them at Sears when I had stopped looking for them some months later, they had two different sizes. So of course I bought a set of eight.
The moral of the story is if you're on a wine trip and see something you really like just buy it. Because you may have a hard time finding out when you get home, sometimes wineries carry things that ordinary stores don't. Plus every time you use your purchases from your trip it'll bring back memories of the fun times you had while on vacation.
If you like red wine, this is a must try red. It goes well with dinner,(try it was salmon it pairs really well) or a cheese platter with French baguettes. Mmmmmm I'm getting hungry just remembering some of my favorite dishes that I have enjoyed with a nice class of this wine. It's also the perfect wine to sit by the fireplace and enjoy a bottle, with your favorite friend. ;-)
Cheers
