Mulled Wine

My favorite mulled wine recipe My first tip for them--a good mix of flavorings--probably isn't too unusual. But a few of the ingredients might be: star anise (sold in the Asian section of many grocery stores), fresh ginger, and plenty of apple and orange slices. The result is reminiscent of sangria, but hot and spiced. You need a surprising amount of sugar for good mulled wine. Heating brings out tartness and tannins in the wine that are enjoyable at cellar temperature, but are a little potent warm. The sugar smooths the rough edges and brings out the spice and fruit flavors.
