Aaaaah, Chianti. Would You Like A Glass?

Aaaah chianti, my very first glass of red that I thoroughly enjoyed. All never forgive it, it was when I first moved back to Canada. Mom and dad had also just recently been experimenting with different Reds and dad just happen to have a bottle of Chianti Ruffino 1995 on hand.

See A Selection Of Reds

After seven long days of driving back home from the East Coast with my daughter Alisha who was six at the time (and her imaginary friend Hickus) I needed a glass of something :-)

Now until this bellisimo glass of Ruffino my past experience with red wine was less than desirable. The only other red I had tried was about five years previous to this one and it was that horrible stuff in the big jug, you know the one. I think I had a headache for about two days afterwards.

But when I think about my first glass of real red now, I look back and am thankful I enough of an open mind to give it another try. Even though my first experience with it was horrible. After the glass of Ruffino, I am a red fan for life. It's right up there with grand marnier (my second favorite beverage)

chianti But after two sets of this new experience, I was a red convert, open to a whole new world.

They are Italian wines, from the Tuscany region, especially from the Bruno di Montalcino and Chianti districts. They are made from the sangiovese grape varietal. The top ones are made entirely from the sangiovese grape. Others use up to 25% of other varietals including cabernet Sauvignon, merlot and syrah grape varietals.

This wine has been around for centuries. It is italy's bellisimo underrated vino. They are pleasantly dry Reds, and any Italian and we'll tell you they go fantastically with food. The pair well with rich tomato based sauces. They're also a fabulous addition to put in your favorite tomato sauce to make your favorite lasagna with. Don't have time to make dinner, order a out of gourmet pizza. A glass of this wine goes great with pizza too.(just make sure it's a gourmet pizza though);-)

red wine They can be anywhere from light to full body. One in particular that I am enjoying on a regular basis is called Davinci, smooth and great on it's own or with dinner. There are aromas and flavors are fruity, particularly cherry, often tart cherry with undertones of violets and sometimes a slightly nutty character. They are a complex tannic red, usually medium to high in acidity. They should be served at a temperature of about 60°most people serve their wine a little too warm, 60° for this wine is just perfect.

Chianti Classico is the heart land zone whose wines are widely available. Similar to the classico is the Rufina (not ruffino) a well known producer from the district is Frescabaldi. Two exceptional vintages in modern times to look for are 1999 and 2001. They are fantastico!

Anything labeled Riserva must age from minimum of two years at the winery. It is usually aged in French oak and has the potential to cellar for a long time. So if you come across again when you like now, by several cases and seller. Because in 10 years from now it will be Magnifico!

Cheers
